‘Live A World’ Episode 1: Kenya (East Africa)
Hello, my name is ivy and I’m from Nairobi Kenya.
Kenya is in the eastern part of Africa. Kenya is known for very many things.
one of the most important is our sports industry, many of the athletes in the long-distance running are from Kenya.
Also, in Kenya, we drive on the left-hand side of the road.
Agriculture to us is a very important part of the economy.
We also have a lot of wildlife like buffaloes, elephants, rhinos…all of them! They’re in Kenya!
Kenya gained independence in 1963 from the United Kingdom.
The two official languages spoken in Kenya are English and Swahili. Swahili is also the national language.
You probably know this song from sometime in your education, ‘Jambo, Jambo Bwana, Habari Gani, Mzuri Sana!’ (Swahili)
Yes! That’s a Swahili song!
Also, Kenya has a Lake Victoria with Tanzania and Uganda. Lake Victoria is the second largest freshwater lake in the world.
Kenyans like many Africans have such a vibrant culture.
It’s represented all of the activities, even in the clothes we wear. The outfits that we put on have a lot of colour. It represents our happiness and our joy to live.
Unfortunately, many Kenyans today, still live below the poverty line.
This is because of many reasons. One of them is due to corruption.
And even the effects of colonisation, which still exists many years after the
However, I’m very optimistic about the future!
I do believe that Kenya like other countries, will develop, and reach to a competitive state.
Q: How is life in Kenya?
A: I grew up in Nairobi Kenya. Nairobi is a capital city of Kenya.
During the holiday, my parents will take me and my siblings to visit my grandparents who live in one of the rural parts of Kenya.
Q: What do you miss the most about Kenya?
A: One thing I miss most about Kenya is that people they are really friendly and welcoming to everyone.
When you’re in the streets, people will smile at you.
And whenever you go to their homes, they’ll provide you with food and treat you like their guests, even if they didn’t expect you.
And that’s what you got to know about Kenya!!!
